Four of Family Commit Suicide in Padubelle

Udupi: Four members of a family allegedly committed suicide by consuming Cyanide on Wednesday, July 12 night at Padubelle in Shirva Station limits. The incident came to light on July 13 morning.

The deceased include Shanker Acharya(50), his wife Nirmala Acharya (44), and daughters Shruthi (23) and Shreya(22). Shanker Acharya was running a jewellery shop in Padubelle.

According to sources, the incident took place in Padubelle where Shanker Acharcya was residing with his family. He was running a jewellery shop since many years at the Padubelle junction. On Wednesday night all family members before going to bed consumed Cyanide. On Thursday morning as none of the family members opened the door, neighbours and relatives sensed something wrong. Later when they knocked the door and did not get any response from inside, they broke the door open.

The exact reason for the suicide is not yet known. However, it is suspected that financial problems drove the family to take the extreme step.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is on. Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake and BJP district president Mattar Rathnakar Hegde visited the spot.

The Shirva Police have registered the case.
