Freemasons’ Lodges to Celebrate Universal Brotherhood Day in Mangalore

Mangalore: Freemasons’ Lodge Prerana No. 313, in collaboration with Lodge Mangalore No. 156 and Lodge Gopalakrishna No. 382, has announced plans to celebrate Universal Brotherhood Day on Sunday, June 29th, 2025. The event convened by Shri. Palli Sadananda Shetty aims to promote understanding and camaraderie within the fraternity and offer the public an opportunity to learn more about Freemasonry.

Freemasonry, a secular confraternity with a history spanning three millennia, is founded on the principles of the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man, striving to cultivate virtuous character in its members. Rooted in the tenets of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, and underpinned by Faith, Hope, and Charity, the organization has historically attracted prominent figures from various fields.

Throughout history, Freemasonry has counted among its members numerous kings, presidents, prime ministers, and other influential individuals worldwide. In India, notable Freemasons have included Swami Vivekananda, President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, Dorabji Tata, C. Rajagopalachari, the Nawab of Arcot Umdat-Ul-Umara, former Governor of Maharashtra P.V. Cherian, and Motilal Nehru, among others. Membership is open to men of all faiths who are at least 21 years of age, possess a belief in God, and adhere to high moral standards. Members typically convene monthly in a designated “Lodge” or Temple. Universal Brotherhood Day, traditionally observed around June 24th to coincide with the Summer Solstice, the Feast of St. John the Baptist, and the founding of the United Grand Lodge of England in 1717, serves to strengthen bonds within the Masonic fraternity.

As part of the celebrations, Lodge Prerana No. 313 will host an Open House event at the Freemasons Hall in Mangalore on June 29th, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The public is cordially invited to attend this free event to gain insights into Freemasonry, tour the facilities, and discover the organization’s potential for personal growth and its continued relevance in contemporary society. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.

A General Knowledge Quiz Competition will be held for college students after the Open House. Interested participants must register in advance, submitting their names (teams of two) and identity proof. Attractive prizes totaling Rs 10,000 await the winners.
