Germany follow Russia to send police to Euro 2016 in France

Berlin, June 3 (IANS) German police will participate in maintaining security at their team’s Euro 2016 matches in France, Jan Schabacker, the spokesman for the German police unit responsible for operations at sports events, said on Friday.

Eight German police will be present at all of Germany’s matches to keep an eye on particularly rowdy fans and help settle potential problems. It is not ruled out that Germany will delegate more police to the match with Poland, due in Paris on June 16. Analysts do not rule out scuffles between fans, reports Tass.

A specialist on fan issues, Gunter Pilz, has warned that the match with Poland was fraught with special risks for security.

Russia earlier said their police would participate in maintaining law and order in Marseilles at the Russia vs England match on June 11. British law enforcers have arrived in France, too. They will help their French counterparts “maintain order and spot and put under control football fans who pose potential risks”.

France will host Euro 2016 from June 10 to July 10. France’s anti-hooliganism department has analysed the forthcoming games and identified a group of “high risk matches”.” The England-Russia clash is on the list.
