Grand Finale Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017

Mangaluru: Department of Business Administration of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management organized “Sahyadri Whiz Quiz’ 2017 Quizzing – Food for thought. This event is for undergraduates to create a fun-filled atmosphere for learning and acquiring general knowledge about current events in the business world. The main aim of the event is to motivate students to bring themselves up-to-date with the latest news and other emerging developments in the areas of Business History, Marketing, HR Finance and Indian Economy.

The program was designed in two phases – College round and Sahyadri Campus round. College round of the quiz was conducted during the month of Feb 2017 in selected 31 colleges in and around Mangalore, Udupi, Kodagu and Kasargod districts. Teams consisting of 3 members’ from final year graduation were eligible to participate in the college round. Around 5000 students participated in the first round of quiz out of which 750 students were selected for the finale. The day witnessed a mammoth crowd of participating students who were enthusiastic to combat in the final round. The Grand finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz began with a brief inauguration program.

Ramesh K G, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017 welcomed the gathering. He gave a glimpse about Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and the achievements of the Department of Business Administration. Dr Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration gave away the birds eye view of the flagship event Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017. She said quiz creates a fun filled environment in learning. The basic premise of the event is to create Knowledge Capital which plays the most important role in today’s competitive world. She proudly welcomed 750 participants from 31 colleges from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Madikeri and Kasargod districts.

The Chief Guest of the day Kishan Shetty, Managing Director and Chairman of Chloris group of Companies inaugurated the programme and he congratulated the organizers of the event for conceiving the great idea of quizzing in the region. He said quiz creates curiosity and curiosity are the mother of learning. Curiosity in every walk of life leads to success and hence he advocated all the students to be curious throughout their lives and enjoy the process of learning. He proposed for preambles of life namely politeness, obedience, loyalty and integrity which paves the way to reach the greatness heights in life. He asked a student to practice discipline and self-appraisal and have a dream and one must strive to realize that dream as he did and also one must keep their head high. He said, as a child, he had a desire of buying an air ticket and today is the proud owner of a licensed private aircraft. He thanked Chairman for his vision and effort of creating such a magnanimous institution and wished the participants all the very best in their life.

Guruprasad, HR Manager – KPMG, Guest of honor for the day thanked the program coordinators for having him on the formal function. He said he has been associated with Sahyadri for campus placements for several years and it is his pleasure to be part of the event though it was quite difficult for him to manage his schedule on a weekday. He applauded the students recruited from Sahyadri because he acclaimed them to be the most hardworking and best of quality in the region. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management complimented all the participants and advised them to nurture humbleness and simplicity in their lives and encash this opportunity to interact with the rest of the student community from various colleges. Grish Madla, Co-coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz gave away the vote of thanks. Mr Shreyas, 2nd Year MBA & Ms Komal, 1st Year MBA were the Master of a ceremony of the event. Rakshith Shetty is the quiz master of the Sahyadri Quiz 2017. Immediately after the formal function the quiz master took over and conducted two prelim rounds and six teams were selected for the final showdown.

The final quiz was quite enthralling and the quizzing technique of Rakshith Shetty was appreciated by every student present in the event. Shailesh Krishna K, Karthik Prabhu M and Siddhant Shamlal Yermal of MAPS College Mangaluruwere declared winners of the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2017. The first runners up were Elvin D’Souza, Shivaprasad V Bhat and Nikash R.K of SDM College of Business Management and second runners up were Vinod Nicholas D’souza, Ratul Kamath and Kaushin Shetty of SDM College of Business Management. The winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 25000/-, Rs.15000/- and Rs.10000/- First, Second and Third Prize winners respectively.
