‘IPS Officer Madhukar Shetty inspiration to all of us’ – Whitefield DCP Abdul Ahad

Udupi: “IPS Officer Madhukar Shetty’s life will always be an inspiration for one and all, his life is a great message for us. We have to follow the path of Madhukar Shetty and it will be the greatest tribute to him”, said Abdul Ahad Puttige DCP Whitefield Bengaluru.

He was speaking after paying tribute to IPS officer Madhukar Shetty at a programme organised by Udupi district Muslim Okkuta at the Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Hall Udupi here, on January 11.

Madhukar Shetty was a great legend in his profession. He had also shown concern for the poor people as well as his juniors. Abdul Ahad Puttige recalled the events of Shetty’s honesty and dedication to the job.

Shetty, served as SP in the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu special task force set up to track down Veerappan, who was killed in 2004. After the operation, the government offered all the members of the task force a piece of land each. Shetty refused, saying it was his duty to have been part of the operation. Such was his commitment to his uniform, said a senior police officer.

Shetty, who was superintendent of police in Chikkamagaluru in 2006, forest officials had evicted people including Dalits and small landowners from the Tatkola forest. Shetty took up their cause and in consultation with DC Harsha Gupta, succeeded in getting them 64 acres of land on the border of the Sargod Kundur reserve forest. The community named that land after the two officers and called it Gupta Shetty Halli.

Madhukar Shetty played a major role in Ballari’s illegal mining scam inquiry by Karnataka Lokayukta. In 2009, Shetty was part of a special team that made life difficult for corrupt leaders. Shetty along with other officers of his Lokayukta team brought out an illegal mining report that eventually forced the then CM of Karnataka to resign from office.

Shetty believed in ‘Work is Worship’ and followed the same. Throughout his service, he continued to take action against the corrupt officials, politicians, prominent government employees and people involved in illegal business, he said.

Arun Chakravarthi IGP western range presided over the meeting.
