Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti Holds 26th Annual General Meeting

Mumbai: The Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that has been working on various development initiatives in the coastal region for the past 26 years, has entered its 27th year.

Addressing the gathering at the association’s 26th Annual General Meeting, President Nityananda D. Kotian acknowledged the contributions of all those who had worked alongside founder Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty since the organisation’s inception. He said he had been associated with the organisation from the beginning and had extended his services to the best of his ability. He called upon members to work together with renewed enthusiasm to implement the association’s future plans.

The AGM was held at the Peninsula Grand Hotel, Sakinaka, Mumbai, in the presence of founder Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty. Presiding over the meeting, Kotian congratulated District Working President Hariesh Kumar Shetty and his team for successfully organising the association’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in Mangaluru.

He observed that several political leaders were aware of the association’s activities and said its efforts would continue with the same commitment. He urged members to work together for the development of the coastal districts and focus on socially beneficial initiatives that would directly help the public.

Honorary General Secretary Mundkur Surendra Salian presented the annual report for the previous year and read out the minutes of the previous AGM. Honorary Treasurer Sadananda N. Acharya presented the financial statement.

Addressing the gathering, founder Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty said the Silver Jubilee celebrations marking the association’s 25th anniversary had been made possible through the collective efforts, dedication and unity of its members. He noted that several political dignitaries, including two senior state ministers, had attended the celebrations, providing an opportunity to highlight important issues concerning the region’s development.

He stressed the importance of involving younger generations in the association’s activities in the coming years. He also explained that the NGO had been systematically bringing various issues faced by the coastal districts to the government’s attention and fulfilling its responsibility in this regard. He said it was now up to the government and the concerned authorities to take the necessary steps to address these issues.

He further stated that, under the leadership of District Working President Hariesh Kumar Shetty, nearly 80 per cent of the work relating to various development initiatives in the district had been completed. The remaining work required government intervention and action by the concerned departments.

He said the association would adopt appropriate resolutions on several important public-interest issues, including the construction of protective barriers to prevent coastal erosion, uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply and efforts to eradicate communalism.

He added that the association would continue to pursue development initiatives by bringing public issues to the attention of the government and urging it to take appropriate action, with a focus on public welfare and the needs of future generations.

Speaking on the occasion, District Working President Hariesh Kumar Shetty said the central committee had constituted the district committee, which had successfully carried out the responsibilities entrusted to it. Several initiatives had already been completed, while others required the continued support of the central committee.

He said the district committee had undertaken various initiatives, including arranging bus services from Mangaluru International Airport and addressing issues related to the supply of Netravati river water. Efforts to implement these initiatives were progressing positively. He also appreciated the district committee members for their contribution to the successful organisation of the Silver Jubilee celebrations and sought everyone’s continued cooperation in taking forward other development projects.

Representing the members, former president Dharmapal U. Devadiga; vice presidents CA I. R. Shetty, Srinivas Sapalya, Adv. R. M. Bhandari, Dr. Surendra Kumar Hegde, Hiriyadka Mohandas and P. Dhananjaya Shetty; Honorary Secretary C. S. Ganesh Shetty; and Justice Morla Ratnakara Shetty offered suggestions and recommendations for the association’s future activities.

Several public-interest issues were also discussed, including the difficulties faced by passengers travelling by train between Mangaluru and Mumbai and the high airfares on the Mumbai–Mangaluru–Mumbai route. Members stressed the need to bring these concerns to the attention of the relevant authorities and seek measures to provide relief to the travelling public.

Honorary Treasurer Sadananda N. Acharya said members had consistently extended their encouragement and support to the association. He observed that additional financial contributions and donations would help the organisation carry out its activities more effectively and appealed to members to extend their support.
