Kadaba Man Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault and Caste-Based Abuse

Kadaba: Police in Kadaba have apprehended a suspect in connection with an attempted sexual assault on a woman within the jurisdiction of the Kadaba Police Station. The accused, identified as Umesh Gowda, a local resident, has been remanded to judicial custody following a court appearance.

The incident, as reported by police sources, transpired on the night of November 13, 2025. The complainant, a woman residing in the Kadaba area with her husband and children, was sleeping in a shed adjacent to her residence when she was allegedly approached by Gowda, who proceeded to attempt sexual harassment.

The woman promptly alerted her family by raising an alarm. Her husband and children immediately responded, rushing to her aid from inside the house. In the ensuing confrontation, Gowda allegedly assaulted the woman’s family members before fleeing the scene.

In addition to the attempted sexual assault, the complaint alleges that Gowda directed caste-based slurs toward the woman, who belongs to a Scheduled Tribe, during his escape.

The Kadaba Police have registered the case under Crime No. 78/2025, invoking Sections 74 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)-2023, as well as Sections 3(1)(w)(i) and 3(1)(r) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Following a subsequent investigation, authorities apprehended Umesh Gowda on November 16, 2025. He was presented before the court, which ordered him to be held in judicial custody pending further proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing.
