Karkala: Student Ends Life After Mobile Phone Request Denied
Karkala: An incident occurred at Kodsarabettu in Nandalike village, where a student reportedly jumped into a stone quarry pond and died by suicide after his family declined to purchase him a new mobile phone.
The deceased has been identified as Sumanth Devadiga (16), son of Surekha from Nandalike. Sumanth was a first-year PUC student at Nitte College. On the evening of November 12, he reportedly argued with his mother, demanding a new mobile phone. Following the argument, he left home and went missing.
During the search, on the afternoon of November 13, his body was found in the water of the Kodsarabettu stone quarry. It is suspected that he may have died by suicide after not receiving a new mobile phone.
A case has been registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station.
