Karnataka Cabinet likely to take place on August 20

Bengaluru: (UNI) The Karnataka Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, will be expanded on August 20 with likely induction of at least 13 minister, official sources said here today.

Mr Yeddyurappa, after consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah said in Delhi tonight that the party central leadership had given its green signal formation of Karnataka Cabinet and it is likely to be done on coming Tuesday.

According to CM office sources here on Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislatures Meeting will be held at 1000 hrs at Conference Hall in Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat on August 20 and in the afternoon the Cabinet expansion will take place.

After the Congress-JDS Coalition Government headed by former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy failed to prove majority, BJP headed by Yediyurappa took Oath as Chief Minister on July 29 and this was the long awaited first expansion. This came in the backdrop of 15 MLAs, three from JD(S) and the others from Congress coalition government tendered resignation to their seats in a rebellion and the coalition government fell into minority.

According to sources, only 13 ministers be inducted in to the Cabinet and remaining ministers will be filled in the coming days.

The delay in the Cabinet Expansion, due to various reasons, was widely criticised by opposition Congress and JDS, since Yediyurappa was the only person who took oath as the head of the BJP government, but thereafter Karnataka was affected by severe floods and rain havoc that delayed the cabinet expansion

The sources said that, Yediyurappa, who was camping since last three days inl Delhi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah, who is also Union Home Minister, and got clearance for Cabinet expansion and he will be returning to the State capital in the night.
