KCCI Submits Memorandum to CM on Key Development Priorities for Dakshina Kannada
Mangaluru: A delegation of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), led by President P.B. Ahmed Mudassar, met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at the Circuit House in Mangaluru on Thursday and submitted a memorandum highlighting key concerns and developmental priorities concerning Dakshina Kannada district.
The delegation comprised KCCI office-bearers, directors and past presidents.
During the hour-long interaction, Shivakumar took note of the concerns raised by KCCI and discussed possible measures to address them. He assured the delegation of his support for the development of the region, with particular emphasis on strengthening the tourism sector and promoting the overall growth of coastal Karnataka.
In addition to the issues outlined in the memorandum, KCCI placed the following proposals before the Chief Minister:
Dedicated five-year tourism promotion budget: KCCI sought a dedicated five-year budget for tourism promotion, covering beach tourism, surfing, paddling and other outdoor and adventure activities.
Annual calendar of events: The Chamber proposed preparing a comprehensive calendar of tourism and cultural events aligned with school and college holidays to encourage greater participation and boost tourism activity.
Single-window clearance: KCCI sought the introduction of a single-window clearance mechanism for tourism-related infrastructure projects and activities to facilitate and expedite approvals.
Standard operating procedures for homestays: The Chamber called for clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a consistent policy framework for homestays, along with better coordination among departments and agencies, including MESCOM, Tourism, Law and Order and other concerned authorities.
Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, Karnataka Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza and senior government officials were also present.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the KCCI delegation to discuss prospective developments and policy initiatives aimed at strengthening the growth and development of Mangaluru and the coastal region.
