KMC Hospital, Attavar Commemorates International Childhood Cancer Day

Mangaluru: Kasturba Medical College Hospital Attavar, marked International Childhood Cancer Day with a special event held at MCODS Lecture Hall, KMC Hospital, Attavar. The occasion aimed to raise awareness about childhood cancer and extend support to children and their families grappling with this illness.

Dr Dilip G Naik, Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (Mangalore Campus), and Shri Sharan Chilimbi, renowned Social Media Influencer & Tulu Content Writer, graced the event as chief guests.

Dr Harsha Prasada, Chief of the Paediatric Haemato Oncology division, highlighted the significance of this day in his opening address. He emphasized the staggering statistics, revealing that while KMC Hospital has diagnosed 675 children with cancer over the years 525 of them have received treatment. In India, approximately 50,000 children are diagnosed with cancer annually, yet only five out of ten receive complete treatment. Dr Harsha Prasad stressed the importance of awareness programs in encouraging parents to seek treatment for their children, thereby improving cure rates.

Dr Dilip G Naik inaugurated the program and lauded KMC Hospital Attavar for its exemplary treatment of childhood cancer cases. He underscored the crucial role of societal support and parental involvement in ensuring effective treatment for such diseases.

Sharan Chilimbi, in his address, advocated for living in the present moment and finding joy in life’s experiences.

The event also featured heartfelt testimonials from parents, including Vasudeva Bhat and Lakshmi Narayana, who shared their experiences and underscored the importance of parental care during their children’s treatment. Generous donors were acknowledged and honoured for their contributions towards treating children with cancer.

Dr. Harsha Prasad warmly welcomed all attendees, while Dr Suchetha Rao, Head of the Pediatrics Department, delivered the vote of thanks. Saghir Siddiqui, COO of KMC Hospitals Mangaluru also present at the event.
