Konkani Sahitya Academy holds ‘Kavya Vhalo-18’ Konkani Poetry Meet
Mangaluru: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organised a Konkani poetry meet titled ‘Kavya Vhalo-18’ at the Academy’s auditorium on September 5, 2026.
Academy President Joachim Stany Alvares, who presided over the programme, delivered the introductory address and welcomed the gathering. He observed that, in a way, every poet is also a teacher.
“Every poet is, in a sense, a teacher. Carefully refining the subject matter required in a poem and giving it an appropriate form is no less valuable than a teacher’s work,” he said.
The chief guest, renowned Konkani actor, singer and activist M. Muralidhar Kamath, stressed the importance of valuing time.
“We must give great importance to time. Every moment can contribute either to our progress or our decline. Therefore, time is our closest friend,” he said.
Senior Konkani activist Gerald Rodrigues, who was honoured by the Academy, expressed his gratitude on the occasion.
“Being recognised and honoured by the Academy as a Konkani activist who has worked behind the scenes gives me as much pride as receiving a Padma Vibhushan award. I thank the president and members of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy for recognising my work,” he said.
Renowned poet Tara Lavina Fernandes (Lavi Ganjimath) conducted the poetry session and introduced the poets and their works.
Poets Valerian Sequeira (Valli Bola), Shanan Reeve Crasta, Kruthika Kamath, Jenisha Sheryl Rodrigues, Edward Lobo Tokkottu, Violet J. Pereira, Aloma Lobo Katil, Godwin Pinto, Kantavara Shivananda Shenoy and Preetham Mijar recited their poems.
Academy member Ronald Crasta compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks. Member Samarth Bhat was also present.
