Laudato Si’ Programme Promotes Environmental Awareness at Paldane Church
Mangaluru: St. Theresa Church, Paldane, Mangaluru, observed the Laudato Si’ environmental awareness programme with a tree planting initiative aimed at fostering environmental stewardship.
The annual event, inspired by Pope Francis’s 2015 call to action, saw the planting of saplings as a means to promote ecological responsibility within the parish community.
The programme was inaugurated by the parish priest, Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, who emphasized the collective duty to protect the environment. In his address, Fr. Coelho underscored the importance of maintaining ecological balance through tree planting and encouraged parishioners to cultivate a love for nature.
The event was attended by key members of the church leadership, including Vice President Elias Fernandes, Secretary Austin Montero, Coordinator of all Commissions Joslin Lobo, Environmental Commission Coordinator Celine D’Souza, and former Vice President William Lobo. Also present were Melwyn D’Souza, Sacred Heart Ward representative Richard Martis, Choir Coordinator Lizzie Fernandes, ward leaders, representatives, and other parishioners, demonstrating a unified commitment to environmental preservation.
