Lucky Escape for Residents as Concrete Wall Collapses on House at Panjimogeru

Mangaluru: A concrete retaining wall collapsed over a house at Urundadi Gudde, Panjimogeru here on June 11.

Speaking to mangalorean.com Francis the owner of the house said, “We were sleeping in our room. At around 6:30 am, we woke up hearing a loud sound nearby and ran out of our house in confusion. When we came out of the house we saw the concrete retaining wall beside our house had collapsed over our house. Our house has been partially damaged and now we do not have any place to stay. At present, it is very difficult and dangerous for us to stay in this house as the concrete wall which is in balance may fall over the house anytime .”

Speaking to mangalorean.com Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “At around 8:15 I received a call from one of the residents of Urundadi Gudde saying that their house has been partially damaged due to the collapse of a concrete retaining. I immediately rushed to the spot, necessary arrangements have now been made to remove the concrete retaining wall.”

Kavitha further said, “We have asked the residents of the house to cooperate until the concrete slab is removed. Necessary equipments have been brought to the spot and the workers will immediately start the work and remove the poorly erected concrete retaining wall without a proper foundation to it. We will also construct the wall of the house as soon as possible so that the family can live in the house. The natural disaster funds will be used to construct the wall and measures will be taken for the safety of other nearby houses.”

 

Speaking to mangalorean.com KDB member Mohammed Ali said, “At around 6:30 am the concrete retaining wall collapsed. I immediately informed the MLA of Mangaluru North Constituency, he, in turn, informed the MCC Commissioner and the Mayor. Necessary equipments have been brought to the spot to clear the concrete retaining wall.”

MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir and others were also present on the spot.
