Mangaluru: A man in an autorickshaw lost a bag containing cash tocrime-story-new snatchers while it was waiting for the signal to turn green near the horticulture office in Bendoor on Monday.

Shivanna, an office assistant in a real estate firm at Bendoorwell, was on his way to Corporation Bank on Upper Bendoor road. As the vehicle was in stationary state near the signal, three men on a bike by its side snatched Shivanna’s bag containing cash and fled.

The bag is said to have contained Rs 27,100 to be deposited in the bank and cheque-books.

The alert rickshaw driver grabbed the collar of one of the miscreants, as a result of which the bike fell to the ground. Leaving it behind, the trio ran away. Since one of them kept flashing a knife, others around did not take courage to stop them.

The man who was riding the bike had covered his face with a multicoloured handkerchief. The others had not covered their faces.

There are no CCTV cameras around the place, said the residents around. The police, after investigation, also came to know that the bike they had left behind bore a fake registration number.

A case has been registered at the Kadri police station.
