The arrested have been identified as Bhuvith Shetty (25) and Achut (28) both are from Bantwal.

Speaking to the mediapersons IGP western range Amrit Paul said that on November 12, when Harish was on his way home five persons came in a car and attacked Harish and Samiulla thinking that they are belong to the other faith. It was very difficult to trace the accused because the victims belonged to two different faith. Finally we monitored the activities of the accused and were able to arrest Bhuvith Shetty and Achut at Mani on November 19.

He further said that another 3 involved in this case will be arrested soon. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they did not know which faith the victim belonged to. Assuming that Harish and Samiulla both belonged to another faith, they attacked both of them. Harish died on the way to the hospital and Samiulla was admitted to the A J Hospital. Three teams have been formed to investigate the case.

Amrit Paul also said, “I have worked in many districts in the state, but I have never seen a place like Mangaluru where people go and kill someone without any reason. As of now, two people have been arrested and the other three involved will be arrested soon. We don’t know exactly how long it may take. During the attack, one person was waiting on the getaway vehicle, one other was on the lookout, monitoring the situation and another killed Harish. As they were targetting Samiulla, they thought that the person who was sitting behind him on the bike also belonged to the same community and attacked both Harish and Samiulla. Their intention was very clear, to kill someone, and this was done by perverted minds.”

They thought that Hindus are suffering because of other communities. They had heard that in Madekeri, one person belonging to the Hindu community died and many others were killed in various places, said Paul.

Bhuvith and Achut were involved in various crimes and cases have been registered against them in the Bantwal police station under section 307 and 506 IPC.

“Since November 13, we have arrested 29 people from various places and sent them to Bellari jail. On 13th, the final rites of Harish took place in Navoor and more than 4000 people gathered for the funeral. We have taken all the measures to maintain the Law and Order situation. On November 12 night, the district administration imposed Section 144 and to maintain the law and order situation, additional police force had been called from other states.”

“I appeal to the public to retain peace because everyone wants to live in peace and harmony. It is the duty of every individual to guide the youth in the right path since nowadays youth are involved in various anti-social activities. We need to guide our youth to lead a good life,” he added.

SP Dr Sharanappa, Vincent Shanthakumar and Bantwal Circle inspector Rahul were also present.

  1. Dear readers,

With this ski mask on, are Canara police giving a preferential treatment to the accused? Many convicted culprits in ‘pub attacks’ are found guilty again in ‘Morning mist’ attack. What the police wanted to prove with this mask to hide shame?

The Canara police has already under scrutiny from the sting operation from ‘Cobrapost’. There is rapid increase in the communal related incident in this coastal belt, why the police has to be soft approach on law breakers? Is there any political interference or compulsion to the Sangh Parivar?

How does Mangalore will be going to be ‘smart city’ if the accused is not exposed of his crimes?

    Jai hind
