Mangaluru: Construction of New Hospitals in DK and Udupi – Minister Khader

Mangaluru: Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader held a press meet at the Circuit House here, on September 11.

Addressing the mediapersons, Khader said that the Health Ministry is constructing new hospitals in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. A 100 bedded MCH wing District Hospital will be built at Udupi under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) at an estimated cost of Rs 13.75 crore. Community health centres will be built under NRHM in Uppinangady, Kadaba and Kokkada at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore each. All the three projects have already been approved in the budget.

The construction of primary health centres in Amblamogeru in Mangaluru, Manchi and Kooranadu in Bantwal, and Charmadi in Belthangady which will cater to the rural population will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.3 crore sanctioned to each PHC. Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery SC will be constructed at Belavai, Bajpe, Kaniyoor and Mundage at a cost of Rs 30 lakh each.

In Udupi unit, a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy centre will be constructed at Karkala at a cost of Rs 5 crore, and primary health centres will be built in Kaup and Kallianpur at a cost of Rs 1.3 crore each. ANM SCs will be constructed at Kodibengrala Keradi, Koni Kundapur, Kukundoor, Belthala Kiradi and Pithrodi in Udupi at the cost of Rs 30 lakh each.

Upgradation of TLH at Beltangady has been completed at a cost of Rs 3.9 crore. In Sullia, the upgradation of TLH work is under progress and 50% of the work has already been completed, remaining work will be completed by December. In Bantwal, the upgradation of the 100 bedded TLH is also under progress and it will also be completed by December 2015.

At Lady Goschen Hospital, a 60 bedded MCH wing will be constructed. The construction of a temporary kitchen block has already been completed. The old kitchen block has been demolished. The completion of the ground floor of the newly constructed wing is being awaited in order to shift the patients to the new wing and start the 60 bedded wing work under NRHM.

In DK, construction of 8 primary health centres in Paltadi, Kudupu, Natekal, Kaniyur, Guthigar, Bellare, Panaje and Koila has been completed and these centres will be handed over soon. In Udupi, construction work of WCH at Udupi, CHC at Hebri and PHCs at Gangolli, Belve, Mudarangadi and Karje are under progress.

When asked about his stand on Yettinahole river diversion project, Minister Khader said, “I will inform the Major Irrigation minister to attend the discussion on this project on September 19 in Mangaluru. Let all the ministers, MLAs and people’s representatives take part in the discussion and clear the doubts of the people of the district.” He added, “We all are Indians and when someone is in need, it is our duty to help them.”

He also said that when Sadananda Gowda was the Chief minister of the state, he initiated the project and 80% of the cabinet members supported it. “Whatever DVS has sanctioned in the assembly, we cannot stop it now. When DVS initiated the project, why did the MP not oppose it? The project was sanctioned without any detailed project report. How one can call a tender without any DPR? Now the MP says Congress is in deep slumber; where was he when his own party leader initiated Yettinahole project?” he questioned. He stressed that on September 19, all the ministers and people’s representatives will have discussion on the Yettinahole project. “We will also inform the major irrigation minister to attend the discussion without fail and clear the doubts about the project,” he reiterated.
