Mangaluru: A domestic dog placed in a cage to attract a leopard on the prowl at Kodipadi accidentally closed the door and enabled the big cat to escape on Saturday night.
The dog which was perhaps feeling restless might have shaken the cage so forcefully that the trap locked itself and prevented the leopard from entering it.
As expected, the leopard did arrive at the spot but it failed to get into the cage. Earlier on Friday night, the leopard is said to have drunk water from a tank in front of the house of Narayana Shetty in a layout in Kodipadi.
The movement of the leopard has been giving sleepless nights to the residents. The forest personnel have assured them of its early capture.
