The programme began with lighting the traditional deepa in front of the portrait of Late Kedige Bhasker Rao by the dignitaries of the evening along with Kedige family members, followed by invoking God’s blessing through a prayer song rendered by Vandana R Kedige. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Kedige Aravind Rao- President of Kedige Prathisthana. Two eminent persons were felicitated during the occasion- Lt Col. John S Serrao was felicitated with ‘Laxmi Bhasker Rashtra Seva Nishta Award’, while “Yakshagana Music artist’ Bhavyashree Mandekolu was felicitated with ” Laxmi Bhasker Yaksha Seva Nishta Award’. Both the recipients of the awards spoke and expressed their feelings on receiving the awards.

Lt Col. Serrao addressing the gathering said, “If I get one more chance to live, I would join the Army again. Every profession is good and great, but serving the nation through your service either in Army, Navy or Air Force is a pride and honour. It’s sad to note these days not many youngsters come forward to join the armed forces-they all want easy and more money making jobs. But I want to tell these youngsters that wearing a armed forces uniform is such a privilege , honor and pride, which you will not find in any other profession. So make up your mind and serve the nation by joining armed services”.
