Mangaluru: Konkani Natak Sabha, celebrated it’s 72 anniversary celebrations on Sunday, October 4 in grand style.
Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza the president of Konkani Natak Sabha, Prem Lobo the vice president, Sunil Menezes the secretary, Gerald Concessao the treasurer and Judy D’Souza the joint secretary of Konkani Natak Sabha with Edwin J F D’Souza the chief guest were present on the dais.
Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza was given a surprise felicitation by the guests on the occasion of his 50th birthday and for his tremendous work in social, cultural and religious activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Cyprian D’Souza said, “Today is the feast of St Francis of Assisi. If he is seeing me from heaven, he would not be happy as he believed in giving to society and not in receiving anything.”
Veteran actors Vincent Dias, Rita Fernandes and Dolla Mangaluru were felicitated with the Austin D’Souza Prabhu award, Norbert Corda award and James Mendonca award respectively.
Konkani stage play ‘Kon Aaplo’ was staged on the occasion. The stage play was written and directed by John M Permannur. Clita Noronha, Alwyn Miranda, Usha Fernandes, John M Permannur, Martin D’Souza, Vinolyn D’Souza, Nelvita Noronha and Navin Kulshekar acted in the stage play.
Konkany Natak Sabha is a name that brings so many memories of the childhood. The ticket cost was about four annas. Some of the last seas were just sufficient. After the theatrical show was over, going home by foot in lonely road from Don Bosco Hall to Jeppoo needed a company. The bus service was closed after 9 pm. Those were the days to remember and rejoice. Those were still the happy days.
