Mangaluru: Msgr Alexander F D’Souza, Ex-Editor of Raknno Passes Away at age 89

Mangaluru: The former editor of popular Konkani weekly “Raknno”, and former Vicar General of Magaluru Catholic Diocese,Msgr Alexander Faustine D’Souza, passed away on Thursday August 20, at the age of 89.

Msgr Alexander D’Souza born on May 29, 1926 and ordained on March 25, 1952 he had served the diocese in Mangaluru in various capacities. He was assistant parish priest at St Sebastian Church-Bendore and Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Urwa. He went to Rome in the year 1955 to complete his studies, and returning back in 1958, he took the position as ICYM diocesan director. He also served as director of council of women.

Msgr Alexander took charge as the editor of Raknno Konkani weekly in 1961, and continued till 1973. He also served as parish priest of Valencia, Milagres, Bendore, Rosario Cathedral, and Vamanjoor churches. He was appointed as vicar general of Mangaluru diocese in 1972, and also served as director of Father Muller Hospital from 1988 to 1991.

Msgr Alexander was the chairman of Konkani Sahitya Academy from 2001 till 2004, and later retired to senior priests home in May 2005.

The funeral mass will be held at St Vincent Ferrer Church- Valencia on Monday August 24 at 9.30 am.
