The protesters demanded that their jobs be made permanent as they have been working for the institute from the past 26 years. One of the protesters speaking to mangalorean.com said that he has been working from past 18 years with the hope that his job will be made permanent one day. But now instead, giving us permanent employment, the management is forcing all the 57 staff to enroll their names under an agency hired by the institution. We have refused to enroll our names under the agency. After working for so many years we demand the management of NITK to make us as permanent employees.

The protesters also said that the administration is trying to outsource the staff and that they want to appoint freshers for the jobs. “The government has sanctioned 230 posts but the administration is not ready to give us permanent employment.” The protesters also blamed that the administration is trying to appoint people from the north as most of the officers are from other states.

Later, the Chairman of NITK Pavan Bhattacharya along with the Dean met the protesters and assured to appoint them on permanent basis. After the assurance from the management, the protesters dispersed.
