Mangaluru-Origin WIM Sana Om Prakash Kayyar Shines at Chess Olympiad
Mangaluru: It is a moment of immense pride for Mangaluru and Derik’s Chess School as Mangaluru-origin Woman International Master (WIM) Sana Om Prakash Kayyar represented Uganda at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan, marking another significant milestone in her international chess career.

Playing on Board 1 for Uganda in all 11 rounds, Sana scored an impressive 7.5 points out of 11, recording five wins, five draws and just one loss. According to the official Chess-Results records, she achieved a performance rating of 2084 and gained 66.4 Elo rating points during the Olympiad.
Sana recorded victories against players representing DR Congo, Fiji, Cape Verde, Pakistan and Palestine, while holding several strong international opponents to draws.

Her performance at the Olympiad adds another remarkable chapter to her growing international career:
2022: African Youth U-14 Girls – Silver Medal; WCM
2024: Chess Olympiad – 6.5/9; WFM
2025: African Youth U-18 Girls Champion; WIM
2026: Uganda Women’s Champion; Chess Olympiad – 7.5/11
Sana has been associated with Derik’s Chess School (DCS), Mangaluru, since her early competitive years. DCS expressed immense pride in having been part of her journey from a promising young player to a Woman International Master and Olympiad Board 1 player.
