Mangaluru: In a move aimed at curbing fatal road accidents, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Reddy has issued a stringent warning regarding driving under the influence of alcohol. Speaking at the inauguration of the National Road Safety Month program held at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall on Tuesday, Commissioner Reddy declared that individuals found driving under the influence and subsequently causing accidents resulting in death will face severe legal repercussions under the law of culpable homicide.

The Commissioner emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating that such offenders could face imprisonment for a term extending up to ten years. This announcement signals a significant escalation in the city’s efforts to deter drunk driving and enhance road safety.

The National Road Safety Month program, organized under the auspices of the Karnataka State Police, seeks to raise awareness about road safety measures and promote responsible driving habits among the public. Commissioner Reddy underscored the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and exercising caution while driving, particularly after consuming alcohol. He stressed that the lives of innocent individuals are put at risk by those who choose to drive under the influence.

The Commissioner’s warning reflects a growing concern over the prevalence of drunk driving and its devastating consequences. Law enforcement agencies are committed to aggressively enforcing traffic laws and bringing offenders to justice. The implementation of stricter penalties for drunk driving offenses aims to serve as a deterrent and create a safer environment for all road users.
