Mangaluru: This is not a ‘doctored’ report, but an authentic one.

This may give a shock of a lifetime to thousands of patients this ‘doctor’ may have treated all though the past 32 years. The Karnataka Ayurveda and Unani Practitioners Board (KAUPB), Bangalore had complained to the higher officials of the department of health regarding a clinic called ‘Amrita Aushadhalaya’ on K S Rao Road in the city some time ago.

The ‘doctor’, who has been running the clinic since 1983, had displayed his registration certificate which was purportedly signed by Dr A Hanumegowda, erstwhile registrar of the board on October 31 that year.

However, Dr Hanumegowda was appointed registrar only in 1990. This led to suspicion and the matter was brought to the attention of the officials.

As no action was taken, the officials of the directorate of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), KAUPB president Dr Satyamurty Bhat, registrar Dr Thimmappa Shettigar and others, escorted by Bunder police, raided the clinic on Saturday, May 2 afternoon and took the alleged quack into custody or practising without proper qualifications.

Further investigations are in progress.
