Mangaluru University to Honor Harekala Hajabba, Govinda Bhat, and Ravish Padumale with Honorary Doctorates

Mangaluru: Mangaluru University has announced the conferral of honorary doctorates upon three eminent individuals at its 44th Annual Convocation. The recipients, Harekala Hajabba, Late Soorikumeru Govinda Bhat, and Ravish Padumale, have been recognized for their significant contributions to society and their respective fields.

The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. L. Dharma during a press conference held earlier today. The convocation ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 28th at 11:00 AM at the Mangala Auditorium, located on the university campus. Thawar Chand Gehlot, the Chancellor of Mangaluru University, will preside over the event.
Harekala Hajabba, the widely respected “Akshara Santa” and Padma Shri awardee, will be honored for his relentless dedication to promoting education in his village. His efforts have transformed the lives of countless children and have served as an inspiration to many.

The late Soorikumeru Govinda Bhat, a renowned Dashavatari and senior Yakshagana artist of the Tenku Thittu tradition, will be posthumously recognized for his invaluable contributions to the preservation and promotion of this traditional art form. His artistry and dedication have enriched the cultural landscape of the region.

Ravish Padumale, a noted Daiva Nartaka (ritual performer), will be conferred with an honorary doctorate in recognition of his expertise and commitment to the Daiva Nartana tradition. His performances are integral to the religious and cultural practices of the region.
Dr. M. C. Sudhakar, the Pro-Chancellor, will also be present at the convocation. Capt. Brijesh Chowta has been invited to deliver the convocation address.

In addition to the honorary doctorates, Mangaluru University will be awarding Ph.D. degrees to a total of 162 research scholars. The distribution of degrees across various disciplines is as follows: Arts (40), Science & Technology (92), Commerce (25), and Education (5). Among the graduating scholars, 74 are women (45.67%), and 88 are men (54.32%). The graduating cohort also includes 11 international students.

The university will also recognize academic excellence by awarding 56 gold medals and 57 cash prizes to deserving students. A total of 69 rank holders, comprising 50 postgraduate and 19 undergraduate students, will receive rank certificates across 147 ranks.

Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. Devendrappa, Ganesh Sanjeev (in-charge), and Finance Officer Panchalingaswamy were also present at the press meet, providing further details about the convocation ceremony and the achievements of the graduating students. The university community eagerly anticipates the 44th Annual Convocation, a celebration of academic achievement and a recognition of outstanding contributions to society.
