Manipal Police Arrest Four Youths Following Late-Night Brawl
Udupi: The Manipal Police have taken four individuals into custody following a late-night altercation that transpired in a public area adjacent to a bar in the vicinity of Manipal. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., has prompted a police investigation and subsequent arrests.
According to official reports released by the Manipal Police Department, the disturbance unfolded outside the Downtown Bar & Restaurant, a local establishment situated near Eshwarnagar in Herga village, within the Udupi taluk. Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a minor, accidental contact between two members of a group of friends who were dining at the aforementioned bar.
The police report indicates that Chandan, one of the individuals present at the bar, inadvertently made physical contact with Amar Shetty, another member of the group. This seemingly trivial incident reportedly ignited a heated verbal exchange between the two men, which rapidly escalated into a physical confrontation. The group of friends involved included Chandan, Amar Shetty, Dhanush, Nitesh, Sujan, and Ninad Ajay.
Eyewitnesses present at the scene captured the unfolding events on their mobile devices, and the resulting video footage was subsequently disseminated across various social media platforms, quickly gaining traction and widespread attention. The viral nature of the video prompted further scrutiny and ultimately led to official police intervention.
Acting on the available evidence and based on a formal complaint lodged by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohan Das, who was on night patrol duty in the area at the time of the incident, the Manipal Police Station registered a case (Crime No. 203/2025) under Section 194(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. This section of the BNS pertains to offenses related to public nuisance and affray.
As a result of the investigation, law enforcement officials have apprehended Amar Shetty, Chandan C. Salyan, Dhanush, and Ajay. The police have confirmed that they are proceeding with further legal action against the arrested individuals, and the investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
