Mluru Yezdi & Jawa Owners Club to Celebrate ’16th Intl Jawa Day on 21 July

Mangaluru Yezdi & Jawa Owners Club of India to Celebrate ’16th International Jawa Day on 21 July at Corporation Ground-Mallikatta/Kadri from 2 pm-6.30 pm

Mangaluru: Every year, people all around the world, get together and get their beloved Czech made motorcycles – the indomitable proud JAWA, or Czech-inspired motorcycles such as the YEZDI in India – out on the roads! Why you may ask? Well its a day when the owners and riders would love to show off their possessions, show the world that these grand machines – that possibly once ruled the roads, not just in India, but in countries of Europe, as well as other continents – are still in use and after all these years, can still mark their presence. On the lighter side, some feel that the owners all round the world would like to make a circle of blue smoke, if just for a little while. But whatever it is, some like to ride in groups, some like to ride solo, some prefer to have city based events – its all a gathering of people and public, who can appreciate those beauties from an era gone by.

Addressing the media persons, Shawn Fernnadez, the project coordinator/member of Yezdi and Jawa Owners Club of India-Mangaluru said, ” On the occasion of the 16th International Jawa Day, Our Club will be organizing a small meet, with special emphasis on Road Safety Awareness complete with a quiz programme, competitions and a presentation, to help educate the members of the Motorcycling Community of the importance of Road Safety in our daily lives. The local Traffic police will be joining in this project. We will be also felicitating a few members of the Traffic Wardens for the same. Riders from Bengaluru, Mysuru and Udupi will be riding down to be part of this event. Nearly 80 participants will take part in this event to be held at Corporation Ground-Mallikatta/Kadri-Mangaluru on Sunday, 22 July from 2 pm-6.30 pm”.

Also briefing about Mangalore Classic Scooter Club, where two of its members had taken a adventurous trip on scooters from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Shawn said, “As an introduction to ourselves, we are members of the Mangalore Classic Scooter Club, that tries to not only save and showcase our heritage of classic Scooters of all makes, but to also keep them going strong in today’s world of technology-loaded and much faster vehicles. We do this by organizing regular meets and rides, including Charity meets with other Clubs. On 26th June, 2 of our members, Girish PV and Suraj Henry left on their most adventurous and longest ride ever– Kanyamumari to Kashmir (K2K) on their 1982 Lamby & 1968 Lambretta respectively. It took months of planning and preparation, for these two riders, in getting the Scooters ready for such a long trip. The Scooters were modified to carry luggage, with extra fuel cans and spares.”

“On the 16th July, after 21 days on the road, these tough Scooterists touched peak at Khardungla at 3.30 in the afternoon. On the way they encountered many fascinated people, family and friends, riders from different clubs who all came together to welcome them with open arms. One of the big highlights of this trip was the handing over of the Star of Kargil Banner, with signatures from all the Motorcycling Club riders, conveying their message of respect and honour to the brave Soldiers who guard our Borders in that tough terrain. The Commandant and Chiefs of the Kargil Army Camp were highly touched and impressed to receive this, after having traveled all the way from Kanyakumari” added Shawn.

Narrating their journey, 44-year-old Girish PV, who works as Assistant Manager for a oil field in Gulf and 31 year-old Suraj Henry, a entrepreneur of a Catering and Shamiyana business in Mangaluru addressing the media persons said that the trip was one of their most memorable one, among all the trips that they have taken in the past. {Mangalorean.com had already published a report {http://www.mangalorean.com/mission-accomplished-local-duo-travel-kanyakumari-to-kashmir-on-lamby-82-and-lambretta-68/ two days ago-please click on the article link}.
