Nephew Allegedly Kills Uncle with Beer Bottle During Religious Ceremony in Punjalkatte
Mangaluru: A solemn religious ceremony in Pilathabettu village, Bantwal taluk, was shattered by fatal violence on Sunday night, resulting in the death of a 38-year-old man, allegedly at the hands of his nephew. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the local community, involved a broken beer bottle and stemmed from an altercation over disruptive behavior during a traditional ritual.
The deceased has been identified as Madhusudhan, an electrician by profession. His alleged assailant is 23-year-old Rahul, the son of Madhusudhan’s elder brother, Keshava Poojary.
According to preliminary reports from police sources, a customary Tambila ritual was being observed at Keshava Poojary’s residence. During the proceedings, Rahul and several companions were reportedly engaged in consuming alcoholic beverages outside the family home, generating considerable noise and disturbance.
As the religious observance progressed, Madhusudhan approached the group, imploring them to cease their disruptive activities out of respect for the ongoing ceremony. This seemingly innocuous request, however, reportedly incited a violent reaction from Rahul. In a tragic turn of events, Rahul allegedly retaliated by attacking his uncle with a broken beer bottle, inflicting a severe wound to his neck before fleeing the scene.
The immediate aftermath of the assault showed Madhusudhan suffering from profuse bleeding. Family members swiftly transported him to a nearby medical facility, but tragically, physicians pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Madhusudhan was unmarried and worked as an electrician in the community. Rahul, the accused, was reportedly employed at a local petrol station.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Government Hospital in Bantwal, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to ascertain the precise cause of death.
Authorities from the Punjalkatte Police Station promptly arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. A formal case has been registered, and law enforcement personnel are actively working to locate and apprehend the absconding accused, Rahul.
