No Dist Administration Officials Present at MIA to Welcome Our Local Powerlifting Winners?

No District Administration Officials were present at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) to Welcome Our Local Winners at the Commonwealth Bench-Press Powerlifting Championship held at St John’s- Canada

Mangaluru: It is indeed a proud moment for Mangaloreans to note that two young men from the City, Pradeep Kumar Acharya from Urwa Store, and Rithvik Alevooraya K.V.- First year Civil Engineering student of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru who had won two gold medals each for India in the Senior and Junior 83 Kg categories respectively, at the Commonwealth Bench-press Power-lifting Championship held at St John’s-Canada, few days ago. And both these men arrived back to their hometown, along with their coach Sathish Kumar of Balanjaneya Gym, Mangaluru on Monday, 25 September evening at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA).

They were welcomed by the representatives of MIA, former MCC Corporator Ms Roopa D Bangera, members of Vipra Samajana Vedike, realtives and close friends, who offered them flower bouquets, and few of them garlanded them. Bur surprisingly it was sad to note that no officials from the District Administration, including the DC, nor the top honchos from the Police Force, nor anyone from the State/District Sports Dept, were there to greet these two young men who had brought glory to their country and to their hometown, Mangaluru. On a second thought, if they they were Cricket champions, I bet a bunch of district officials would have shown up. Shame on all these officials who didn’t had the courtesy to express their support and greetings to these two CHAMPS!

Pradeep had emerged as a winner by bagging the gold medal for India in the 83 kg senior category, which was held on 17 Sept, where he won the First place registering a total lift of 210 kg, followed by Tom Keen, who registered lift of 180 kg getting silver medal, while Rob Dyke bagging the bronze medal (It was Pradeep’s very first attempt, that he bagged the Gold, after he lifted 210 kg); and the next day, on 18 Sept he won yet another gold medal. Prior to this Championship, Pradeep had taken part in Eight international Power-lifting events and has won medals for India in South Africa, Australia, Hongkong and Dubai in the last 2 two years.

Rithvik Alevooraya K.V.- First year Civil Engineering student of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru had won Two Gold medals in the Sub Junior 83 Kg Category Classic & Equipped Power Lifting Bench Press Championship organized by International power Lifting Federation & Commonwealth Power Lifting Federation & The Canadian Power Lifting Union held at St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.

Four other students of Pradeep whom he had trained them, Deepa K S , Rithvik K V , Panchami and Swathi UK, had also participated in the Championships in Canada. Team Mangalorean congratulates Pradeep and Rithvik on their achievements, and wishes them all success in bagging many more medals in the future Powerlifting Championships.
