No Parking Fee at MIA on Apr 3, Car Parking Contractor Fined Rs 2.5 lakh for Violation
Mangaluru: “We had noticed the 2-month-old video being circulated in the social media. We had also taken immediate action against the car parking contracting company for violating the terms and conditions of the airport authority and imposed a fine at the same time. On April 2, we have again imposed a penalty of Rs 2.5 lakh for violating the other norms of the airport by the contracting company”, said the Director of the Airport V V Rao in a press meet held at MIA here on April 3.
Addressing the mediapersons V V Rao requested the journalists not to publish any such news without confirming it with the authorities. The video which has gone viral is two months old and as soon as we received the complaint we have taken action against the contractor for violating the rules and regulations of the airport. We have also imposed Rs 2.5 lakh penalty on April 2, for the violation of other norms of the airport. As a punishment, we have ordered the contractor not to accept parking fees on April 3. We have also asked the contractor to clarify the violations of the rules and regulations of the airport.”
V V Rao further said, “The Airport Authority of India has come up with a parking policy. Under this policy, the present contract of the car parking will be cancelled. We will call for new tenders under the new parking policy. The new parking policy will also be transparent. We will also start App based Taxis in the airport so that there will be competitive fares and better quality of service. We have also conducted grooming classes on November 14, 2017 for the taxi drivers, car parking attendants and airport porters and this is the first airport to conduct such classes”.
V V Rao also said, “Many people are trying to tarnish the image of the Mangaluru International airport. I urge the journalists if they come across such video’s or rumours against the Mangaluru airport to kindly clarify with us before publishing such news. Please do not get polarized by such video’s and publish news to tarnish the good image of MIA.”
It is time the parking was made automatic, drive in pick up the ticket, gate opens, completr drop off or pick up, drive to the exit gate, insert the ticket, pay the charges as per the ticket, gate opens & drive away. I recall some time back they manipulated the clocks sp that everyone was charged. Do away with this man made interference and corruption. It can be monitored by cctv.
