Mangaluru: Domestic flyers will soon be able to buy liquor at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) – at present only those passengers who arrive at MIA from Gulf Countries by international flights are so far allowed to buy liquor at the duty-free shop. However, the new liquor shop coming up at the MIA will be DUTY-PAID SHOP and NOT Duty-Free Shop accessible for international flyers. This move by the airport authority is to give buyers a quality shopping experience and increase government revenue.

According to Airports Authority of India (AAI) that the license to operate the duty-paid liquor shop inside the MIA will be issued soon, and the shop will come on a space of 40 sq meter near the arrival area inside the terminal building. As per the commercial manager at MIA who has said, “Any passenger can passenger the liquor from the liquor shop after their arrival. The shop will be set up as per excise rules of Karnataka state. The corporate office has studied the demand and invited tender to install the shop. Domestic passengers can buy liquor before exiting the airport building”.

MIA sources reveal that the liquor shop will stock liquor manufactured by major liquor companies, and out of the leading 21 international liquor brands, at least 15 brands will be available at the new liquor shop when it opens. If you are looking for brands like Jack Daniels’s, Johnie Walker, Smirnoff, Bacardi, Absolute, Captain Morgan, Jagermeister, Bailey’s, Ballantine’s, Jim Beam, Jameson, Chivas Regal, Grant’s, Hennessy, Grey Goose, Dewars, Bombay, Ketel One, Teachers, among others. Many other liquor brands will also be available based on customers demand, it is learnt.

The prices may not be the same that you will be paying at Duty-Free Shop, but the liquor will be sold at prices marked on the bottle. But consumption of liquor on the premises will be strictly prohibited, and violators will be strictly fined. The MIA authorities say that the new liquor shop will have the same standard and look that of International kind.
