Offenders will not be Spared, Those who want to Transform will be Trained – Dr Harsha during Service Parade

Mangaluru: The Commissioner of Police Dr Harsha organized a Service Parade and felicitated the beat members as well as the Beat Constables at the CAR grounds here on September 13.

Police Commissioner Dr Harsha was taken on an open jeep to inspect the parade, he later received the guard of honour by ACP of CAR Murugesh Upase and an attractive parade was displayed by the police force.

Addressing the Service Parade Dr Harsha said, “This is the first service parade after I joined here. I would like to thank the general public for their support. In the City, we are making policing more people-friendly through “My Beat My Pride”. At present we have more than 30,000 active beat members in 756 WhatsApp groups. We have 1000 police staff in the city, but now we have more than 30,000 members in the beat groups and the credit goes to all Mangaloreans. At this juncture, I would like to recall the service of Megharikh who was the SP of DK. He used to say that the important post in the police system is the police constable because police constables are the base of the whole policing. Likewise, another post in the city that is important is that of another PC (Police Commissioner). Both the PCs work through “My beat My pride”. When I first visited the beat areas along with the beat constable, people were inspired by it and assured their support. The people of Mangaluru have kept their promises and 30,000 people have blessed us. We get almost all the information from the beat members whenever there is a problem in their respective areas”.

Dr Harsha further said, “We have already succeeded in nabbing the accused. One of the accused was absconding from the past 30 years, but through “My Beat My Pride”, the accused was arrested after the beat members identified him and informed the beat constable. In Moodbidri, a beat member handed over Rs 50,000, which was left in his auto to the police station. Recently when a car was involved in a major accident in which a number of students were injured, a beat member immediately informed us and we rushed to the spot and saved 10 lives. Last week also when a compound wall collapsed in which two children buried alive, a beat member informed us and we rushed to the spot immediately. We need support from the people and many have come forward to support us. I would like to thank every citizen of Mangaluru for their whole-hearted support towards “My Beat My Pride”. The basic objective is to rope in as many citizens as possible in policing the city. We have been successfully adding 30,000 active members who are helping, guiding and giving us very valuable inputs and have been responsible for the detection and prevention of many crimes. As a token of respect, today we are honouring a few of our civilian members and beat constables. In the coming days, we will try to increase the members and within three months we will reach the target of 2.5 lakh. We will launch an App for “My Beat My Pride” where all can participate with us as per their convenience”.

Getting tough on the offenders Dr Harsha said, “We will eliminate drug peddling in the city which is rampant. We have been successful in filing cases in Ullal, Suratkal and Kavoor police stations. We will not spare the drug peddlers, we will do everything and use every provision in the law to eliminate them. Our aim is to bring the addicted youth to the mainstream for which we have taken necessary steps, one of them being “Campus Connect”. Youth are the asset of the country and if our youth get addicted to drugs the future of the country will be at stake. We will not spare the drug peddlers who are spoiling the future and life of our youth by selling drugs to the students on the campus. A special unit will operate to punish the drug peddlers by filing proper charge sheets and following up with the cases. Goonda ACT and COCA will also be against repeat offenders.

While concluding, speaking in Tulu Dr Harsha said, “Ee dinada kavayat gg vishesavad ashirvada maltudu Police daklena ottugu prati hejjedla, jotheyad ippuna Tulunad da yenna pura anna thammanakleg bokka megdi paliyadleg yenna udal jinjina solmelu. Niklena bembalodu kudlan jagathudu athyantha shanthiyuthavayina nagaravad malpuga solmel”. Jai Karnataka, Jai Hind.

DCP Law and Order Arunagshu Giri, DCP Crime and Traffic Lakshmi Ganesh and all the ACPs, Inspectors were also present.
