On The Third Day He Resigned! 75-year-old Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa Breaks His Old Record of Being CM for 7 Days?

Mangaluru: 75-year-old Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa resigned on the Third after being sworn in as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka before facing a crucial trust vote in the assembly on Saturday, 19 may 2018. Yeddyurappa made an emotional speech on the floor of the House before announcing his decision to step down as numbers were stacked against the BJP in the newly elected House. This is the third time Yeddyurappa has become chief minister of the state. In 2007, he ruled for seven days before BJP’s then coalition partner JD(S) withdrew support. In 2008, he again took over as the chief minister but lasted only 39 months before he was arrested on corruption charges.

“I am going to resign as chief minister….I will go to Raj Bhavan and submit my resignation. I will travel across the state non stop. We have received tremendous love and support across the state. For 2019, I promise, we will win 28 out of all 28 Lok Sabha seats. I won’t relent. I will continue to fight. I thank people of Karnataka,” he told the assembly in his speech. Yeddyurappa said he would now “go to the people”. He slammed the Congress-JDS tie-up and said “Those who were swearing on the names of each other’s fathers and calling each other names before polls, have now come together to form this unholy alliance”

The Supreme Court had yesterday ordered a floor test in the Karnataka assembly at 4pm today, drastically slashing the 15-day window given by Governor Vajubhai Valato BJP Chief Minister Yeddyurappa to prove his majority. Yeddyurappa’s resignation will pave the way for formation of a government led by JD(S) state chief HD Kumaraswamy, who has the backing of the Congress. The newly formed alliance has claimed support of 117 MLAs in the 224-member House with an effective strength of 221. Reacting to the developments, Congress said “BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ to poach legislators from other parties has failed and democracy has won in Karnataka.”

“Operation Lotus’ fails! #BSYeddyurappa remains 2 day CM as the country predicted, breaking his own record of being 7 days CM. Democracy Wins! Constitution Wins! (sic)” Congress’s chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted.

  1. This is very good for BJP. The loser Congress has to surrender to third-place winner Kummy and yield to his demands. During 2019 elections,JDS will demand majority of Old Mysore seats and there is a good chance that the coalition will not last for more than a year. Plus, ‘appa-maga’ team has repeatedly shown how deceptive they are. Congress is not a majority in any of the major states. Sad day for a party known for minority ‘vote bank’ politics.

  2. Well done YEDDY. You must have asked some members to support you. But congress bought whole JDS to form a government. Their main aim is to prevent BJP government in Karnataka at the cost of more corrupt government for Karnataka. God bless Karnataka.
