Organ and Eye donation is a noble deed – SP Laxman Nimbargi

Udupi: Despite major advances in medical science, organ transplant is the only alternative in certain cases to save life. Organ donation is a noble deed said Laxman Nimbargi Superintendent of Police Udupi district.

He was speaking after inaugurating the organ donation and eye donating awareness camp organized by Udupi district reserve police 2008 batch on Saturday, September 22 at the Jagannatha Auditorium, Mission Compound Udupi here.

Awareness is the key for more and more people to come forward and participate in this noble deed. For organ recipients, transplant is a second chance to life. It could mean a patient from the deathbed returning to normal life, he said.

Dr Vinod Nayak professor of KMC Manipal briefed about the importance of donating organs and said, organ and eye donation would provide satisfaction to donors and help in saving lives of many patients. The act of donation could save up to eight individuals at a time. Commonly performed transplants include kidneys, heart, liver, pancreas, intestine, and lungs. We need many more organ donations in our country. People should feel more comfortable in donating organs, he said.

Additional SP Kumarchandra, DySPs Kumaraswamy and Belliyappa, RPI Udupi district R Raghavendra, Assistant administrator DPO Jagadish Salimath, Jayakar Shetty Indrali and others were present on the occasion.
