Padubidri: Burglars decamp with gold jewellery worth Rs 48 lakh
Padubidri: A residential burglary in Padubidri’s Deen Street has resulted in the theft of gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 48 lakh. The incident occurred on the night of January 27, targeting the home of Mohammed Aftab Ali.
Reports indicate that Mr. Ali’s mother secured the residence on Tuesday evening before departing for her daughter’s home, located in proximity. The burglary was discovered the following morning upon her return. At the time of the incident, Mr. Ali’s wife was visiting her mother, and their son was abroad in Dubai.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the perpetrators gained entry by forcibly opening the door lock. Once inside, they proceeded to damage a cupboard and abscond with a substantial quantity of gold ornaments. The stolen items include a 7-pawan necklace, a 5-pawan necklace, a small choker weighing approximately 3 pawans, another choker weighing 2.5 pawans, bangles weighing 15 pawans, a 3-pawan bracelet, a 1-pawan ring, three additional rings weighing 3 pawans collectively, a pearl-studded gold necklace, assorted small gold chains, and earrings. The total weight of the stolen gold ornaments is estimated to be 70 pawans. Additionally, a Rado wristwatch valued at Rs 50,000 was also taken.
The residence was equipped with a CCTV system utilizing a SIM card. The burglars removed the CCTV system along with the other stolen items. Authorities have confirmed that alerts originating from the CCTV SIM card were received on the phone of Mr. Ali’s son, who is currently residing in Dubai. The incident has triggered unease among residents in the area, given the density of housing in the vicinity.
Udupi District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, DySP Prabhu D.T., Kapu Circle Inspector Ajmath Ali, and Padubidri Police Station Inspector Shaktivela, accompanied by a team of law enforcement officials, conducted an on-site inspection of the affected property. Fingerprint analysis experts, a canine unit, and scientific investigation teams were deployed to gather forensic evidence.
