Pathway and ILA Hold State Team Selection for National-level Lagori Championship 2018

Mangaluru: The selection of the players to represent the state in the National-level Lagori Championship 2018 was held at the Mangaluru University College Grounds here on December 16.

The programme began with an invocation. Pathway team member Ganesh welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal of Mangaluru University College Dr Uday Kumar by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

The director of Athletico Sports and Events Pvt Ltd Tushar M Jadhav speaking on the occasion said, “Santhosh P Gaurav was the founder of Amateur Lagori Federation of India. He started his research on Indian traditional games in 2006 and founded the Lagori Association in 2009. He has struggled for many years to promote Indian traditional sports to the international level. He has proudly promoted the Indian traditional sports in 25 countries in less than a span of 6 years. Initially, there were no sponsors to organize the sport but because of his hard work and dedication, he has introduced Lagori in European and Asian Countries. Santhosh has spent a lot of money to promote Indian Traditional Sports. This is the first time we are organizing the National-level Lagori Championship in Mangaluru. I would like to thank Deepak Gangulli of Pathway for selecting a Transgender as the brand Ambassador. I also would like to thank social activist Violet Pereira for her dedication and efforts to bring the transgenders to the mainstream”.

Addressing the gathering Dr Uday Kumar said, “It is a rare occasion in this campus. Generally, we never say no to any constructive activities. I would like to congratulate the organizers for identifying this Lagori game and trying their level best to bring it to the mainstream. I would also like to thank Sanjana for agreeing to be the brand ambassador for this Tournament. My friend from the media has been a strong support for this Tournament. I salute the Founder and Managing Trustee of Parivarthan Charitable Trust Violet Pereira for her initiative in bringing the Transgenders to the mainstream. To do great things we don’t require huge money but with new technology, anyone can use their common sense, come together and work together. This kind of initiative, love, dedication honesty and hard work can bring changes. I am delighted to be part of this tournament, the support by the Vice Chancellor and the faculty from the University college has made it possible to hold the selection of state team for National-level Lagori Championship on our campus. I wish all the players the very best and pleasant stay in our campus. Let this Rural game Lagori reach greater heights.”

Brand Ambassador of National-level Lagori Championship – 2018 Sanjana speaking on the occasion said, “Today I have been given an opportunity to be the brand ambassador for this tournament by Deepak Gangulli but my Amma Violet Pereira has been a strong support for me. A tree gives us shade and protects us from sunlight likewise Violet Pereira is protecting us from problems by listening and always being there for us. Whatever she has been doing to bring us to the mainstream we will surely see that her efforts bring positive results’.

Sports Secretary of Pathway Nitesh Kulal delivered the vote of thanks. General Secretary of International Lagori Association Sandip Pralhad Gaurav and Chairman of Pathway Deepak Gangulli were also present.
