Patwari writes to MP CM seeking Nehru Stadium for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ in Indore
New Delhi/Bhopal: The proposed interaction of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi with students and the youth in Indore on September 12 has brought the Madhya Pradesh Congress and the BJP-led state government into a fresh political contest, with state Congress chief Jitu Patwari seeking the Nehru Stadium as the venue for the event.
The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has submitted a proposal to the state government seeking permission to hold its “Students’ Voice” programme at the Nehru Stadium, where Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to interact with students and youth.
In a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday, Patwari urged him, who is also the minister-in-charge of Indore, to direct officials to make the stadium available for the programme.
The Congress leader described the proposed event (Chhatron Ki Goonj) as an initiative focused on issues concerning education, employment, opportunities and the future of young people, rather than a conventional political gathering.
“This programme is not merely a political event. It is a meaningful public dialogue focused on important issues concerning the future of the country, the aspirations of young people, the right to education and the protection of the education system,” Patwari said in the letter.
The Congress has sought to position Rahul Gandhi’s proposed interaction as part of its broader outreach to students and young voters, with education, employment and opportunities expected to be among the issues to be discussed during the event.
Patwari said the programme would provide students an opportunity to raise questions, express their concerns and share their aspirations about the future.
“Students’ Voice’ aims to provide students a platform to express themselves, listen to their dreams and concerns, and establish a meaningful dialogue on issues related to education and their future,” he said.
The Congress leader also highlighted Indore’s status as an educational centre and said participation of students from the city could make the interaction broader.
Patwari, in his letter, said Rahul Gandhi’s position as Leader of the Opposition made the proposed interaction with students significant and urged the government to consider the request on priority.
The Congress party has also sent copies of the request to the Indore Collector and the Commissioner of the Indore Municipal Corporation.
