Police Arrest Five, Seize Red Sanders worth Rs 2 Crore

Mangaluru: The Anti-rowdy Squad of Mangaluru North Sub-division along with the Panambur police arrested a gang that was involved in Stockpiling and trying to export red sanders illegally at Mangaluru Port Trust here on January 9.

The arrested have been identified as Shiekh Tabrez (36), Farooq (45) and Hussain Kunhimonu (46) all from Permannur, Rakesh Shetty (44) from Kavoor and Lohith (36) from Thokkottu.

According to the police, on January 9, after getting reliable information about the illegal export of red sanders, police raided Venus Enterprises at Baikampady Industrial area Jokatte and seized 4000 kgs of Red sanders worth Rs 2 crore from their possession.

The police arrested all the five persons and seized Red sanders worth Rs 2 crore, a Maruti Breeza Car worth Rs 10 lakh, Renault Pulse Car worth Rs 6 lakh, Tata Ace Goods Tempo worth Rs 2 lakh, 7 mobile phones worth Rs 30,000 all worth Rs 2.19 crore from their possession.

During investigations, it was revealed that the accused had stored red sanders in a rented godown at Venus Enterprises. On January 9, the accused were trying to export the red sanders through ship via New Mangalore Port Trust.

In a press release, police commissioner Dr Harsha has stated that the details of the case were withheld to verify the antecedents of the accused who were attempting to smuggle the red sanders.

The police have registered a case under sections 50, 62, 80, 104 of the Karnataka Forest Act and 144, 165 of the Karnataka Forest Rules.
