Preetham Kamath Installed as President of Port Town Advanced Toastmasters Club

Mangaluru: The new team of Office Bearers of Port Town Advanced Toastmasters Club for the year 2019-2020 led by President Preetham Kamath was installed at a glittering function held on Sunday June 30, 2019 at Mangalore Club. M. Ranganath Bhat, Honorary Secretary, Canara High School Association, Mangaluru was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Ranganath Bhat observed that facing challenges paves the way to achievement. “We are unable to know our own capacity for achievement. It’s only when we are thrown towards the deep end that we realize that we can surface and swim,” he said, giving examples from his own experiences as a cycling enthusiast.

Toastmasters Area F4 Director Vidya Shenoy administered the oath of office to the new team of office bearers for 2019-2020, led by the President Preetham Kamath. The team includes Malini Hebbar (Vice-President – Education), Savitha Salian (Vice-President – Membership), Amitha Shetty (Vice President – Public Relations), Dr. C. K. Ballal (Secretary), Dr. Oliver D’Souza (Treasurer) and Lyra Pinto (Sergeant-at-Arms).

Phyllis Maria D’costa, Lyra Pinto, Frances Pinto and Florida Almeida rendered the invocation. Molly Chaudhuri welcomed the gathering and Malini Hebbar presented the annual report in the form of a fun quiz highlighting the achievements done by the club during the past year. Amitha Shetty introduced the chief guest. Since Roman mythology was the theme of the installation ceremony, the office bearers and some of the presenters had dressed up in costumes of ancient Rome. Bharathi Shevgoor presented an innovative concept of passing on the baton from the old team to the new, keeping in mind the theme of Roman mythology. Krishna Prasad Adappa introduced Preetham Kamath to the audience.

Outgoing President Vidya Shenoy thanked her team and club members for their cooperation during her tenure. In her acceptance speech Preetham Kamath expressed her vision and goals to be achieved by the club during her term.

District Administration Manager Savitha Salian, Division F Director Shivani Baliga, Area Directors Dr. Oliver D’souza and Dr. Sukanya Rao, Kiran Vasanth, former Area Director, Beena Shetty (Winners Toastmasters), Kavitha Kamath (Mangalore Toastmasters), Rajat R. (Infosys Toastmasters Mangalore SEZ), Fiona Moras (Inspiron Toastmasters) and Dr. Reshma Karkera (ProAct Toastmasters), M. N. Pai, Nivedita Mirajkar, Phyllis Maria D’Costa, Carol Coelho felicitated the new officer bearers. Vasudev Kamath, husband of the newly sworn-in President and Ramesh Kumar, a member of Colombo Toastmasters Club, Sri Lanka too felicitated the team. A beautiful painting by artist Vishnudas Kamath Shevgoor was presented to the chief guest as a memento.

Dr. C. K. Ballal proposed the vote of thanks. Mahesh Nayak was the Master of Ceremonies.
