Pure Indian Breeds and stray dogs Show gets Good Response at Malpe Beach
Udupi: Madhwaraj Animal Care Trust organised the first time ever “The Great Indian Dog Show” of Pure Indian breeds and stray dogs at Malpe Beach on Sunday, December 8. This is part of the” Namma Swantha Namma Hemme “Campaign + Action for stray dogs by MCT, Malpe to protect and promote our own local breeds.
The event witnessed hordes of native Indian breeds, walking the ramp with their owners. Proud dog owners, not only from Udupi district but also from Mangalore participated with their beloved canine companions in the show.
Pure breed Indian dogs like Mudhol, Rajapalyam, Caravan Hound, Pariah, Pandikona among other breeds stole the show during the dog show. Excellent dogs won the prizes under the best dressed, most healthy, best name, most energetic, beautiful smile etc category.
The dogs along with their proud owners strutted down the ramp in style. And every pet owner had an inspiring story to share about their dogs. On the sidelines of the event, there was also an adoption drive during which rescued stray dogs were adopted by animal lovers.
Speaking to Mangalorean.com Babitha Madhwaraj of Madhwaraj Animal Care Trust said that, last year this same type of Indian breed Dog Show was organised in Chennai and this is the second show. There are enough people to buy foreign breeds for Lakhs of rupees. But it’s unfortunate that no one is ready to buy our own breeds and street dogs. So we have organised this show to protect and promote our own local breeds.
She further said that until now we have given 300 stray dogs for adoption. The Government should open a hospital for stray dogs. This kind of show creates awareness, empathy and sensitivity about other living beings in the society thus unifying the community in this noble cause and carry out our duty as responsible citizens, she said.
