Religious Fervour and Communal Harmony Mark Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations in Udupi
Udupi: The festival of Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) was observed with traditional religious zeal and a message of social responsibility by the Muslim community across the Udupi district on Saturday, June 7th. Special prayers (namaz) were conducted at various Mosques throughout the region, marking the start of the day’s observances.
Clad in their finest attire, Muslims congregated at mosques to participate in the Eid prayers. At the Brahmgiri Hashimi Mosque in Udupi city, Imam Maulana Ubedar Rehman Nadvi, following the prayers, delivered a discourse emphasizing the importance of responsible social media usage. He cautioned against the dissemination of defamatory or insulting content targeting other communities, underscoring the potential for such actions to disrupt communal harmony.
Maulana Nadvi further addressed the pressing issue of drug abuse among the youth, imploring parents to safeguard their children from the detrimental effects of such substances. He advocated for the cultivation of love, harmony, and peace as guiding principles within society, urging attendees to actively promote these values in their daily lives.
Notably, a significant number of women actively participated in the Eid al-Adha prayers, reflecting the inclusive nature of the celebrations.
Eid prayers were conducted across numerous mosques spanning the Udupi district, encompassing locations such as Kapu, Brahmavar, Kundapur, Byndoor, Hebri, and Karkala taluks. Devotees, dressed in new clothes, gathered at these mosques in the early hours to partake in collective prayers. Several mosques established dedicated spaces to accommodate women participating in the Eid prayers. Following the prayers, congregants exchanged greetings and extended well-wishes to one another, fostering a spirit of unity and goodwill.
The Eid prayers were led by esteemed religious figures, including Maulana Abdur Rasheed Nadvi at the Udupi Jamia Mosque, Maulana Inayathullah Rizvi at the Udupi Anjuman Mosque, and Maulana Ubedar Rehman Nadvi at the Brahmgiri Hashimi Mosque.
At the Moolur Jumma Mosque, the central mosque of the Udupi District Joint Jamaat, the special Eid prayers and Khutbah (sermon) were presided over by Khatib Hafiz Muhammad Ashraf Sakhafi.
In Kundapur, an Eid procession commenced from the Kundapur Jumma Mosque in the morning, culminating in special Eid prayers at the Kundapur Eidgah ground, led by the respected religious leader Maulana Karar Hussain.
In anticipation of the festival, stringent police security measures were implemented throughout the Udupi district to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents. The successful and peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Adha underscores the community’s commitment to religious observance and social harmony.
