Resident Doctors of Wenlock Protest against Unpaid Stipend for 10 months

Mangaluru: Resident doctors of the District Wenlock hospital protested against the non-payment of their stipend from the past 10 months in front of the Wenlock hospital here on February 12.

The protesters have already submitted a letter to the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa requesting the payment of their stipend which has been pending from the past 10 months but so far have not received any reply from the government.

Addressing the mediapersons resident doctor of Wenlock hospital Dr Nihal said, “We have completed our MBBS in KMC hospital through CET selection. After our studies, we are serving in the Wenlock hospital. 50 doctors who are working as resident doctors have not received our stipend for 10 months.”

Dr Nihal further said, “There was an agreement between the KMC Manipal University and the government to pay Rs 20,000 for resident doctors with 2 days monthly leave. Based on the agreement the resident doctors are working at the Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals. We have completed our degrees through merit and most of us come from very poor families. If we don’t receive the stipend how can lead our life? questioned Dr Nihal.
