RGPRS Udupi District holds Postcard Campaign Demanding Capital Punishment for Rapists

Udupi: The Udupi district Rajeev Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatane has demanded capital punishment for the four culprits involved in the brutal rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor.

The association on December 5 organised a postcard campaign to the president of India demanding capital punishment for the culprits in front of the Head Post office Udupi.

Addressing the gathering senior Congress leader Dr Sunitha Shetty said, “It is shameful that even after 75 years of Independence, our country is still not safe for women. Criminals should be hanged in full public view. We need laws that instil fear in the minds of such men and make them think a thousand times before laying their hands on women.”

“There is no place for such heinous acts in the civilized society. Exemplary punishment should be given to the accused in the Hyderabad horror and Yakapur incident to create fear among the perpetrators,” she said.

Roshni Oliver co-ordinator of Udupi district RGPRS demanded stringent action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

Leaders Mary D’Souza, Somanath BK, Dinesh Kotian, Sathish Japthi, Sunil Nayak, Joythi Hebbar, Sulochana, Mahabala Kunder, Irene Menezes and others were present.
