Six Arrested in Mangalore for Social Media Posts Disrupting Public Peace

Mangalore: In a decisive move to maintain social harmony, authorities in Mangalore have apprehended six individuals accused of propagating inflammatory content on social media platforms. The arrests, announced by the Mangalore City Commissionerate, are the result of targeted operations aimed at identifying and detaining those responsible for disseminating provocative messages intended to incite unrest within the city and the Dakshina Kannada district.

The individuals taken into custody are Mohammad Assam, Chetan, Nitin Adap, Riyaz Ibrahim, Jamal Zakir, and Guru Prasad. Each is accused of utilizing various social media platforms to spread content deemed disruptive to public peace.

Mohammad Assam, 23, a resident of Hejamadi in the Udupi district, was arrested for allegedly disseminating provocative content via the Instagram account team_jokerzzz 109, reportedly operating from Saudi Arabia. He faces charges under FIR No. 88/2025, Sections 192 and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code, registered at Mangalore South Police Station. A lookout circular (LOC) had been issued for Mohammed Assam before his arrest.

Chetan, 20, residing in Katipalla, and Nitin Adap, 23, of Haleyangadi, were apprehended for purportedly spreading provocative messages through the Instagram account we team_karna_surathkal 55. Authorities further allege that an individual identified as Channappa @ Muttu Suratkal utilized SIM cards registered under Muslim names in connection with these activities. Their case is registered at Mangalore North Police Station under FIR No. 58/2025, Sections 196(1) and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code.

Riyaz Ibrahim, 30, a resident of Arkula, Farangipete, was taken into custody for allegedly disseminating provocative content via the Instagram page Beary_royal_nawab, also reportedly operating from Saudi Arabia. He faces charges registered at Barkhe Police Station under crime number 44/2025, Section 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code, and at Mulki Police Station under case number 6:42/2025, Sections 353(1)(c) and 353(2) IPC. An LOC had also been issued against Riyaz Ibrahim.

Jamal Zakir, 21, residing in Kasaba Bengre, was arrested for allegedly spreading provocative messages on the Instagram page Troll_bengare_ro_makka 101. His case is registered at Mulki Police Station under crime number 44/2025, Sections 353(1)(c) and 353(2) IPC.

Guru Prasad, a resident of Kolvail, Haleyangadi, was apprehended for allegedly spreading messages on the Facebook page Guru dprasad Haleyangadi 20. A case has been registered at Mulki Police Station under crime number 53/2025, Sections 196(1)(A), 353(2), 79, and 56(3).

The ongoing investigations are being conducted by a specialized team comprising officers and staff from the C.E.N Crime Police Station. The operations are under the direct supervision of Mangalore City Police Commissioner Mr. Sudhir Kumar Reddy, IPS, and Deputy Police Commissioners Mr. Siddharth Goyal, IPS (Law and Order), and Mr. Ravishankar (Crime and Traffic). Authorities have affirmed that the investigations remain active and are committed to pursuing all leads to ensure the maintenance of peace and order within the community.
