Smart & Top Performing Catholic Students in Academics Felicitated at ‘Fudar Pratisthan Puraskar ’20

 Smart & Top Performing 176 Catholic Students in Academics (SSLC, PUC, Degree, Masters/Ph D) of Mangaluru and Udupi, Felicitated with Certificate, Memento and Cash at ‘Fudar Pratisthan Puraskar ’20 organized by ‘Fudar Pratishtan Trust, working for Welfare of Kanara Catholics on Sunday, 1 March 2020 at Milagres Jubilee Hall, Mangaluru

Mangaluru : For the last so many years, Fudar Pratishtan Trust, Mangaluru, which has been working for the Welfare of Kanara Catholics, has been recognizing the efforts put in by the Catholic students in academics and shining with high grades- and this year too, 176 Catholic Students who performed with high grades in SSLC, PUC, Degree , Masters/Ph D were felicitated with a Certificate, Memento, and Cash during a felicitation programme held on Sunday, 1 March 2020, at Milagres Jubilee Hall, Mangaluru. Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated the programme, and felicitated the Top performers in academics, along with other dignitaries on the dais, namely- John D’silva-President-Fudar Pratishtan; Dr Norbert Lobo-HoD Dept of Economics at St Aloysius College; Allan Rajesh Vas- Senior Intelligence officer at Directorate General of GST Intelligence Mangaluru Unit; Paul Ralphy D’Costa- President, Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh; Alwyn Quadros- President, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, among others.

After felicitation, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha said, “I am really overwhelmed to honour all our Catholic students who have shine in their academics with good grades. It is our duty to identify talented students and felicitate them so that they feel encouraged to do better in future. Every child has its own talent and capacity. When the parents or elders support them, their talent will bloom. it is indeed a kind gesture on the part of Fudar Pratishtan to recognize the academic talents of these 176 students, and honouring them on this great occasion, in front of their families, relatives and friends”

Dr Norbert Lobo delivering his keynote address said ” Catholic community has always been associated with learning and education, but the community has not been able to use the same effectively. Our youngsters are only dreaming of getting jobs abroad, but the reports state that job market, specifically in the Gulf countries is bad. Hence, instead of dreaming of Gulf jobs, our students should aim at getting good government jobs here. Presently, Technology and automation has been responsible for the large scale loss of jobs all-over” Quoting CMIE data He further said India has the lost around 20 million jobs between 2016 to 2018. Salaried jobs in the private sector are dwindling and disappearing faster than one could imagine. India is also witnessing one of the highest unemployment rate in the last 45 years.

Further Dr Lobo said the employment scenario in the Gulf countries which were the main source of employment for the people of the coastal belt since 1970’s also have changed recently. Quoting the data from the MEA , he said between 2014 to 2018 the number employment visas granted by the six Gulf Countries for Indians have declined by 62 per cent. He called upon the students to think seriously about jobs in the government sector. He opined getting a job in the government sector may be little challenging but the salary structure and other facilities are good. He further said Government jobs gives the power with authority and opportunities to do good for others and bring the transformation one would like to achieve.

John D’silva speaking on the occasion said, “Our organizations, institutions should hold career guidance programmes for students. Hope our brilliant students and youth will understand the importance of governmental jobs, business and active participation in politics”. On the occasion, Senior Intelligence officer in Directorate General of GST Intelligence Mangaluru Unit, Allen Rajesh Vas was felicitated on the occasion. Alvita Ancilla DSouza , rank holder in PUC for the year 2019 was also felicitated during on the occasion.

Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha along with other dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the Suicide Prevention Campaign. Fr Richard D’Souza, Director, Canara Communications briefed about the “Year of Life ” and Suicide Prevention Campaign which is initiated this year by Mangaluru Diocese, under the able leadership and guidance of the Bishop.On behalf of felicitated students, Princita Correa, Esha Pais and Ivy Cutinha shared their gratitude to organizers and the audience.

Lancy D Cunha, President, All India Catholic Union , Nigel Periera, Elroy Kiran Crasto, Santhosh D Silva, Ignatius Monis, the executive members Fudar Pratishsthan also graced the occasion. Welcome address was delivered by Fr Walter D’Mello, Vice President , Fudar Pratishstan, and the vote of thanks was proposed by LJ Fernandez, Secretary of Fudar Prathishtan. The programme was compered by Ms Shanthi Priya.
