Three Killed in Multiple-Vehicle Collision on National Highway 66 Near Panambur
Surathkal: A devastating multiple-vehicle accident on National Highway 66 near the Panambur signal resulted in the immediate deaths of three individuals on Saturday morning. The incident involved two tankers, an autorickshaw, and a car, triggering a chain-reaction collision with fatal consequences.

Authorities have identified the deceased as Mohammed Kunji, the autorickshaw driver from Ullal, and passengers Aboobacker and Ibrahim, both residents of Konaje. Anand Saneel sustained injuries in the collision and is currently receiving medical treatment. Mohammed Sheikh, the driver of the car involved, has been taken into custody pending further investigation.
According to preliminary reports, the accident transpired as vehicles were stationary at the Panambur signal. A car and an autorickshaw were halted behind a tanker when a second tanker, approaching from the rear, collided with the autorickshaw. The force of the impact propelled the autorickshaw forward, causing it to strike the car, which in turn collided with the tanker positioned in front.
The autorickshaw was crushed between the two tankers, leading to the instantaneous deaths of its two passengers and the driver. The severity of the collision underscores the potential dangers inherent in high-traffic zones and the critical importance of maintaining safe following distances.
The Mangaluru North Traffic Police promptly responded to the scene and initiated a comprehensive inspection to determine the precise sequence of events and contributing factors that led to the tragic incident. The investigation is ongoing. The incident caused significant disruption to traffic flow on National Highway 66, and motorists were advised to seek alternative routes where possible. Law enforcement officials worked diligently to clear the scene and restore normal traffic conditions.
