TMA COVID Hospital Udupi treating COVID-19 patients under Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka scheme from July 01

Udupi: TMA COVID Hospital Udupi which was treating COVID patients from Udupi district free of cost will come under the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust under the Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka scheme from July 01.

In a press release, medical superintendent of the hospital has stated that, the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) designated Dr TMA Pai Hospital in Udupi has been a dedicated COVID hospital from April 01, 2020. The hospital was upgraded with tertiary level intensive care facilities along with enhanced support for oxygen beds to treat the COVID-19 patients of Udupi district. This unique model of public/private cooperation during public health emergencies has been very successful so far and has received recognition from many quarters.

As on June 30, the team of doctors at the Dr TMA Pai Hospital have treated 202 COVID-19 patients and discharged 147 of them. The hospital has provided free treatment for all patients in the general isolation wards, including ICU, ventilator, and dialysis facilities from April 01 to June 30. MAHE has spent Rs 75 lakhs for the treatment of these patients, including Rs 15 lakhs for nutritious food for the COVID patients. The hospital has also spent Rs 50 lakhs for upgrading the facilities and for making the hospital suitable for COVID-19 management.

From July 01, Ayushman Bharath – Arogya Karnataka (AB-ArK) scheme is applicable in the hospital for all eligible COVID-19 patients being admitted in the general ward. All other COVID-19 patients who prefer special wards or are ineligible for AB-ArK will come under the payment category as per the Karnataka government order HFW 228 ACS 2020 dated June 23, 2020.

The hospital continues to provide high-quality care for COVID-19 patients until other hospitals, including private hospitals in Udupi district, are ready to manage the COVID-19 patients.
