Udupi: Badagabettu Co-op Society bags National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) Award

Udupi: The Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society has once again bagged the award from the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for the best primary co-operative in Karnataka and its significant achievement in the co-operative sector, said Jayakar Shetty Indrali, General Manager of the society.

Addressing the mediapersons at the Press Club on Friday, April 17 Jayakar Shetty said that the society has a total of 23,098 members who have contributed 87 per cent of the bank’s equity. “The main activities of the bank include disbursement of agricultural credit, distribution of inputs such as fertilizers and others. Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society is the first bank in the co-operative banking sector to reach this goal in the state. The award consists of a citation letter and Rs 50,000 in cash, and will be presented on April 29, 2015.”

Badagubettu Credit Co-operative Society has been a leader in this field in the district, and has previously received the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) award in 2008. It has also previously received 8 district and 2 state awards for its achievement. It has a set-up of more than Rs 202 crore and has 7 branches in Udupi Taluk.

National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is a statutory Corporation set up under the Act of Parliament in 1963 to plan, promote and finance programmes through cooperatives for the production, processing, marketing, storage, export and import of agricultural products and other notified services. National Cooperative Development Corporation has been conferring “NCDC Award for Cooperative Excellence” once in two years since 2002, to the best Primary Society from each state/Union Territory. The award consists of Rs.50,000/- cash prize, trophy and a certificate of citation. Union Minister for Agricultural Radha Mohan Singh will present the award at New Delhi.

On the occasion, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society handed over a computer set to the Udupi District Working Journalist Association office.
