Udupi: A petition seeking a review on the order passed by the High Court of Karnataka banning slaughter of goats and hens as offering during the Kaup Maripuja has been filed in the High Court by BJP member Gurme Suresh Shetty, said Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde. He was addressing a press meet at the BJP office here on March 24.

The same order had been issued in the past but due to severe protests, the order was withdrawn. People from faraway places like Uttar Kannada travel to Kaup and offer hens and goats as sacrifice.

Udupi – Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has clearly instructed officers of the National Highway Authority that no toll gates will be operated on National Highway 66 until 90% of the construction work is completed. “Now 75% of the highway construction work is completed after the BJP came to power. The company officials and the National Highway officials have promised to complete the work by May 15. The service roads and the construction work of the roads near Karavali Junction and Padubidri will start soon.”

In regard to the survey work for installing pipeline from Tokottu-Padoor for the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited located at Padoor, seven villages of Udupi District covering 59 acre land will be acquired by the government through KIADB. 16 acres out of this land is government land. The inefficient measures by KIADB for the survey work is creating hurdles for the villagers. Pre-notice for survey was not issued to the villagers. Hence, they do not have any information about the survey.

The pipeline requires 68 ft of land and no construction work or the agricultural activities are permitted in the area of 60 meters. Compensation is given only for the 68 ft of land and not for the entire 60 meters. The compensation amount is 10% of the market value which is unfair. The land prices are increasing rapidly. The problem here is due to the UPA’s land acquisition bill; the NDA’s ordinance will be giving the farmers 4 times more than the market value. This problem was brought to the notice of the MP and she responded to the issue: “The Deputy Commissioner and District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake should address the problem of the people. A special cabinet decision should be taken by the government to give compensation that is 4 times more than the market value. In the coming days, the high tension wires will be fixed to supply power to ISPRL and the land acquisition will be followed soon. The high tension wires should be installed parallel to the pipeline as it avoids further land acquisition.”

ZP Member Geethanjali Suvarna, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, Veena Shetty, Kuthyar Naveen Shetty, Sandhya Ramesh and others were present.
